Following Pietro's untimely death in 2011, Giovanni assumed sole leadership of the Ferrero Group. He served as CEO until 2017, when he transitioned to the role of executive chairman to focus on long-term strategy and innovation.

Under his guidance, the Ferrero Group has achieved significant milestones, including the acquisition of Nestlé's U.S. confectionery business in 2018, enhancing its presence in the North American market.

As of April 2025, Giovanni Ferrero's net worth is estimated at $38.4 billion, making him the wealthiest individual in Italy and placing him among the top 30 richest people globally.
